Madeline Island Golf Club is set on the largest of Lake Superior’s 23 Apostle Islands – located across from the town of Bayfield, Wisconsin and 85 miles east of Duluth, Minnesota. The unique course layout at the Madeline Island Golf Club provides golfers of all abilities a real challenge. Whether you are planning a day of golf for yourself, your family, or your foursome, Madeline Island is the ideal location.

Playing over 6,000 yards from the middle tees, this Robert Trent Jones, Sr. layout offers 18 memorable holes with a slope rating of 119 and a course rating of 69.3. While ladies get a reasonable break from the red tees (4381 yards), the white tees reward longer hitters with three of the par 4s measuring well over 400 yards and the par 5s demanding tightly targeted tee shots.

Comments From Robert Trent Jones, Sr, Madeline Island Golf Course Designer

“When you are relaxing at a resort, it’s a good time to play an unusual course like Madeline.”

“In England, double-nines are designed where you play out and back. At Madeline, you play out from two different tees, often using two different fairways, but winding up on the same green,” said Jones.

“This produces massive greens ranging up to 14,000 square feet versus about 7,000 at Hazeltine. The pins are widely separated, but nonetheless, a bad chip and you can wind up with that 230-foot putt.”.
